Japan IGF is the National IGF in Japan, which serves as a platform of discussions for the Japanese community on issues discussed in the Internet Governance arena.
We registered as the National IGF in Japan in Nov 2016.
We operate under open and transparent, inclusive and non-commercial principles. We work in accordance with the bottom up consensus process of the IGF and accommodate multistakeholder participation. This is consistent with the Organizational Principles described in the National Regional IGF Webpage by the IGF secretariat.
Japan IGF is a combination of two types of activities. They are:
- Annual meetings (IGF-Japan) and
Continuous discussions platform (Internet Governance Conference Japan: IGCJ), through bi-monthly meetings and mailing list
Annual Meetings (IGF-Japan):
The program is designed by its steering committee with diverse members. Internet related organizations, academia, related representatives from government are the main participants. They share and exchange the information regarding various topics related to Internet Governance which are issues in global arena. This activity targets to attract participants from various stakeholder sectors mainly through related organizations.
Continuous discussions platform (IGCJ):
This is “bottom-up continuous discussion “platform that anyone can bring topics regarding Internet Governance, which constitutes of “bi-monthly meetings” and an “open mailing list”.
Bimonthly face to face meetings are organized with an open call for suggestions for topics and speakers. The meeting agenda is then designed by diverse members of its coordination group. It also operates a daily-used mailing list for information sharing and discussion. Basically, participants contribute to this activity as individuals.
This leads to expansion of awareness mainly by human network, usually in a topic-based community or in an organization. This “bottom-up continuous discussion” sometimes becomes triggers of activities with tangible outputs. See Documents/statements developed by Continuous Discussions Platform (IGCJ): for specific outputs.
